I USED TO BE AFRAID OF THE COLOUR BLUE 💙⁠ -⁠ Not as in the sight of the sea would leave me running and hiding behind a rock... that would be a bit much, but I used to really struggle with bringing the colour blue into my work. ⁠ -⁠ Very few flowers hold a true blue colour and so most arrangements and designs shy away from it, focusing on pastels, pinks, oranges or reds. Bringing blue into designs just never worked for me and I could never quite picture how it could work and so I'd avoid buying them. ⁠ -⁠ After lusting over some gorgeous arrangements by some of the many florists I admire, I tried to work out why I liked them so much... and it was their use of blue that tied them all together! Using it as a contrast is incredibly effective and it can lift the other colours in the design. 💁🏻‍♀️ HOW COVID HAS CHANGED MY WORK⁠ 💁🏻‍♀️ HOW COVID HAS CHANGED MY WORK⁠ 🎢⁠ -⁠ I'm not the most organised person in the world in my personal life but in my business, I really try to ensure everything is perfectly planned, systems in place, orders in early, invoices up to date and everything is running smoothly. ⁠ -⁠ Lockdown (and post lockdown restrictions) changed all that. From having 20 pieces of paper with scribbled potential postponed dates all over the table to only taking payment for weddings days before the event, just in case they weren't going ahead. ⁠ -⁠ It's pushed me hugely out of my comfort zone but also showed me that I don't always have control of everything... but that it's OK! If I didn't have the order placed and payments made a month before the wedding I would usually be in a total flap, when I didn't need to be. So I think this has taught me to just relax a little, the world won't fall apart and I really can create something beautiful with only a few days notice and a last minute venue change!⁠ -⁠ I think it's influenced my work more widely too. We had planned to shoot this setup outside but the weather took us into this room and it's gorgeous fireplace. I immediately wanted to dress it with flowers and so I used some of my spares, repurposed some old ones we had shot and created this!
