Jacinda | Spider Plant | Zebra Grass

The Spider Plant is maybe the most iconic house plant – who didn’t have one in the house growing up?  They’re also the perfect live accompaniment to any mid-century furniture or teak sideboards for that perfect modern-meets-vintage eclectic look.   We’ve got 2 varieties, the classic (Chlorophytum comosum) and a shorter variety called Zebra grass with smaller leaves tinged with white edges.

She will arrive in a 12cm plastic growing pot, or you can add on a perfectly fitting pot to go with her – I recommend a 13-15cm pot

Care Advice

Jacinda | Spider Plant | Chlorophytum comosum

Native to South Africa but now found in tropical climates around the world, the Spider Plant is a really easy going plant and ideal for those who struggle to keep their house plants alive.

Give her a good watering every couple of weeks but don’t leave her sitting in lots of water and you can let her dry out between waterings – she’s very chilled and can take being forgotten for a few weeks here and there.   Spider plants are also very rewarding, when they’re happy, they give you lots of little babies, or ‘spiderettes’ so you can increase your collection or gift them to friends – Jacinda really is the perfect plant.

We’ve got two varieties in store, the ‘classic’ spider plant with long, curving leaves and a white stripe in the middle; and ‘zebra grass’ a variety with shorter green leaves that create more of a star shape from the centre and have a white tinged edge.

The only common issue you might see is browning leaf tips – mine gets this sometimes.  It’s due to fluoride in our tap water so water from a filtered jug if you have one, or leave a jug or bucket outside to collect rainwater – I find my plants prefer the natural stuff to our tap water every day!

All of the houseplants in my shop are named after an inspiring woman. This time, it’s Jacinda Ardern, PM for New Zealand.  Whether it’s breast feeding in Parliament or forging a world leading plan through COVID, she’s an incredible leader and overall awesome woman.

Spider Plants are pet-friendly although they do release a chemical when eaten that can make cats a little excitable!

As a small business, customer satisfaction is the most important thing to me.  As carefully as I pack your order, there is a small chance your items could be damaged during transit.

If soil has been displaced or a few leaves are damaged, give them a trim and your plant should be right as rain in a week or two.  If more severe damage has occurred in transit, please email me within 24 hours with photographs and I’ll be happy to support.

In order to process the refund or re-sending of any damaged item, I will need photographs of the photographic evidence of the item(s) claimed for clearly showing damage to external packaging, internal packaging, parcel label on item and damage to the item, within 7 days.  Without this information and photographs, I will be unable to process your refund or send out replacement products.

I ordered a house plant and pot from Gemma and am really pleased with it so far.  The website pot recommendation was really helpful and also the plant care tips that were emailed to me separately. Gemma delivered the plants herself and the presentation was beautiful. Would really recommend for any gifts (to other or self!).

Bought a “phoebe” plant as I can’t seem to keep houseplants alive! Delivery was amazing (plant still seemed happy!) and I even had a little freebie which I also love. Phoebe has settled in nicely in her new pot (also from Iris & Co, beautiful). Couldn’t ask for more and would definitely recommend!
