Sarah May | Fittonia Nerve Plant | Hypoestes

Sarah May the Fittonia (or Nerve Plant) is a chameleon of colour, available in Green,Pink and Red.  Her unusual markings are what set her apart and, like the nickname suggests, looks like she’s been splattered with paint.

Sarah May Loves

She will arrive in an 8cm plastic growing pot, or you can add on a perfectly fitting pot to go with her – I recommend a 10-13cm pot

Care Advice

Fittonia | Nerve Plant | Hypoestes

Native to the jungles of Peru, Sarah May loves humidity and moisture so I recommend keeping her soil fairly damp – the best way to do this is by regular misting.  Keep her somewhere nice and warm but not with direct sunlight as that can burn her leaves.

She’s a trailing houseplant meaning she won’t get particularly tall but may spread out up to around 12 inches (don’t worry, she’s unlikely to take over the bookcase within a few months). It’s easy to take cuttings from her and propagate so get ready for some plant babies!

ll of the houseplants in my shop are named after an inspiring woman.  This time, it’s Sarah May Fitton, along with her sister Elizabeth discovered this beautiful plant as they smashed the male dominated world of botanical writing in the 1800’s – which I think is pretty bloody good.

Good news!  Fittonias are widely considered to be non-toxic to pets.  Try to keep out of reach though, in case your fluffy friend takes a liking to her.

Going Green:  All of my packaging is recyclable or reused, plants are wrapped in corrugated cardboard for protection and their pots wrapped in a compostable bag – just pop it in your food waste caddy or compost heap afterwards!  If you do spy any sneaky plastic in your order (bubble wrap, air packs etc.) rest assured they’re re-used from orders I’ve received – feel free to keep reusing!  All deliveries are carbon offset too, so you can enjoy your plant, guilt free!

As a small business, customer satisfaction is the most important thing to me.  As carefully as I pack your order, there is a small chance your items could be damaged during transit.

If soil has been displaced or a few leaves are damaged, give them a trim and your plant should be right as rain in a week or two.  If more severe damage has occurred in transit, please email me within 24 hours with photographs and I’ll be happy to support.

In order to process the refund or re-sending of any damaged item, I will need photographs of the photographic evidence of the item(s) claimed for clearly showing damage to external packaging, internal packaging, parcel label on item and damage to the item, within 7 days.  Without this information and photographs, I will be unable to process your refund or send out replacement products.

Bought a beautiful pinstripe calathea that arrived super quickly and in great condition. There was also a hand written note and a care guide which was a very nice personal touch.

I ordered a houseplant from Iris & Co in the last few weeks and was very happy to receive a healthy, beautiful plant within a week of ordering. Gemma was quick to respond and very helpful. I love the info cards included with purchase that include helpful tips on how to care for each plant! Will definitely order again.

I ordered a house plant and pot from Gemma and am really pleased with it so far.  The website pot recommendation was really helpful and also the plant care tips that were emailed to me separately. Gemma delivered the plants herself and the presentation was beautiful. Would really recommend for any gifts (to other or self!).

Bought a “phoebe” plant as I can’t seem to keep houseplants alive! Delivery was amazing (plant still seemed happy!) and I even had a little freebie which I also love. Phoebe has settled in nicely in her new pot (also from Iris & Co, beautiful). Couldn’t ask for more and would definitely recommend!
